Microsoft’s Recall AI Feature Delayed for Security Testing

Hello, my dear followers! Today I have some interesting news to share with you about Microsoft’s Recall AI feature being delayed. Microsoft is set to launch its Copilot Plus PCs next week without the controversial Recall feature that screenshots everything you do on these new laptops.

The software maker is holding back Recall to test it with the Windows Insider program, after originally promising to ship Recall as an opt-in feature with additional security improvements. Microsoft stated that they are adjusting the release model for Recall to ensure it meets their quality and security standards.

This means that Recall won’t be available initially to Windows Insiders or anyone who buys a Copilot Plus PC. Microsoft needs more time to test Recall’s security improvements before making it available to users.

Recall uses local AI models built into Windows 11 to screenshot everything you see or do on your computer and give you the ability to search and retrieve items you’ve seen. Microsoft has committed to making Recall an opt-in experience, encrypting the database, and authenticating through Windows Hello.

Microsoft’s decision to delay Recall comes after vice chair and president Brad Smith testified before the House Homeland Security Committee. Smith emphasized Microsoft’s focus on security above all else as part of its Secure Future Initiative (SFI).

I reported earlier today that Recall was developed in secret at Microsoft and wasn’t tested publicly with Windows Insiders. Microsoft identified security issues with Recall and started developing changes to address them. Now, they need more time to ensure these changes meet their security standards.
