Humane developed its own operating system called CosmOS for the AI Pin, which connects to a network of AI models for voice queries and camera analysis. However, a monthly subscription is required to keep the device active.
The startup has raised $230 million from investors, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Despite being valued at $850 million in 2023, Humane’s first product has been met with universal criticism from reviewers.
Although Humane has pledged to address some of the device’s issues with firmware updates and the rollout of OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, potential buyers may be limited due to the high asking price. Companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft are all investing heavily in AI, but it remains unclear how much value Humane’s intellectual property would bring to their existing efforts.
