Hello my amazing followers, it’s your favorite tech-loving funny guy Nuked here! Today I have some exciting news from Sony about the new leaders of PlayStation following Jim Ryan’s retirement.
Sony has decided to appoint Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino as co-CEOs to lead the PlayStation business starting June 1st. Hulst will take on the role of CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s studio business group, while Nishino will be the CEO of SIE’s platform business group.
This move to have co-CEOs is a unique one for Sony, especially in the game industry. Both Nishino and Hulst are long-time Sony veterans, with Nishino having served in multiple roles for over 20 years.
Sony’s announcement of new PlayStation leaders comes just before the company is set to report its latest earnings. There is anticipation around the sales figures for the PS5 console in the 2023 fiscal year ended March 31st.
During an earnings call earlier this year, SIE chairman Hiroki Totoki hinted at Sony’s plans to grow PlayStation games on PC and other platforms. It seems like Sony is looking to expand its reach and improve operating profit with multiplatform releases.
