AR Animals on Google: From Roaring Dinosaurs to Fading Away?

Hey there, followers! It’s your tech-loving buddy Nuked here to share some interesting news with you. Remember Google’s AR search feature that allowed you to bring augmented reality animals and objects into your real-world surroundings through your phone’s camera?

Well, it seems like that fun feature might be disappearing soon. According to reports, the number of animals available for AR renders in Google search has significantly decreased. Some users, like my editor Richard Lawler and myself, have noticed this change on our Pixel phones.

However, when I tried searching in Safari on my iPhone, I was still able to find some AR animals like Tyrannosaurus Rex and Giant Panda. Could this be a temporary glitch or a workaround on Safari’s end?

It wouldn’t be surprising if Google’s AR search feature is on its way out. The company has made significant changes to its AR division this year, including letting go of many AR hardware employees and shutting down projects like Project Iris AR glasses.

When Google first introduced AR search in 2020, it was a hit among users looking for entertainment during lockdowns. The feature started with animals and gradually expanded to include dinosaurs, bugs, NASA artifacts, and even fictional characters like Baby Yoda. We reached out to Google for clarification on the current situation but have not received a response yet.

In the meantime, why not take a moment to enjoy some AR animals if they’re still available to you? Who knows, they might not be around for much longer. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story!
