Hello my fellow tech enthusiasts! Today I bring you news about a recent fix for a security issue found in video doorbells manufactured by Eken Group. According to Consumer Reports, the company has released a firmware update to address the vulnerabilities in their products.
Eken Group has not only issued the fix for their own branded video doorbells, but also for those produced under other brand names such as Fishbot, Rakeblue, and Tuck. These doorbells were available for purchase on popular online platforms like Amazon, Shein, Temu, and Walmart.
Consumer Reports had previously discovered that these video doorbells had security flaws that could potentially allow unauthorized access to the device. By simply using the Aiwit app and the doorbell’s serial number, a person could spy on the video feed without needing any login credentials.
The lack of encryption for home IP addresses and Wi-Fi networks posed a serious risk to users’ privacy and security. However, after reviewing Eken’s firmware update, Consumer Reports confirmed that the issues have been resolved.
As a result of Consumer Reports’ findings, the FCC has requested more information from online retailers regarding their product vetting processes. Eken’s video doorbells were also found to be lacking required FCC ID labels, which have since been added to the product manuals.
If you own an Eken-produced video doorbell, make sure to check if your firmware is updated to version 2.4.1 or higher. You can do this by accessing the device settings through the Aiwit app. Stay safe and stay updated with your tech devices!
