In a recent press release, Amazon announced the closure of the Lockeford location and the launch of a new Prime Air facility in Tolleson, Arizona. The new location in Arizona will offer “same-day” deliveries to residents in the West Valley Phoenix metro area, starting later this year.

The reason for the closure of the Lockeford location, which opened in 2022, was not clearly stated in the press release. However, Amazon mentioned that employees at the Lockeford site will be given opportunities at other locations within the company.

Amazon is still operating its Prime Air services in College Station, Texas, and plans to open new locations in 2025. The company is also testing a new MK30 drone that is lighter and can fly through light rain, after facing challenges with previous models that crashed during testing.

While Amazon was an early adopter of drone delivery technology, it has fallen behind competitors like Zipline, which has reported completing 1,000,000 deliveries as of April 19th. Despite setbacks, Amazon remains committed to improving its drone delivery service and expanding to new markets.
