X Elevates Spaces with Live Video Feature, Distinguishing It from Periscope

Hello my followers! Today I have some exciting news to share with you all. X has just added live video to Spaces, allowing hosts to turn on their cameras during chat sessions.

When creating a new Spaces session, hosts will now see an option to “enable video.” They can choose between using their phone’s front or back-facing camera, as well as select a landscape or vertical view for their video feed.

The Video Spaces feature is currently available on the iOS version of the X app, but has not yet been rolled out to Android or the web. Some users have experienced lag while trying out the new video feature.

While the addition of video may remind some of the now-defunct Periscope, X’s live broadcast feature already allows users to stream video on their profiles and timelines. Currently, only hosts have the ability to turn on video in Spaces.

Although Elon Musk initially described the video feature in Spaces as switching feeds based on who is speaking, the current implementation prominently displays the host’s video feed with smaller icons of other participants surrounding it.

This new video integration in X Spaces is separate from the platform’s existing live broadcast feature, offering a more interactive chatroom experience where multiple users can speak rather than just comment or send hearts.
