Ring has confirmed to The Verge that it has stopped selling its Ring Car Cam, a dashcam/security camera hybrid that has been hard to come by since its launch at CES 2023. Customers who tried to purchase one in the last few months are finding their orders canceled.

The decision to stop selling the Car Cam was due to ongoing delays with the device. Ring spokesperson Andrea McDonald mentioned that customers who already purchased a Car Cam will continue to receive software updates and support, but did not provide details on potential future sales resumption.

In my review of the Ring Car Cam, I noted that it had a unique approach but fell short in terms of video quality, monthly fees, and integration with Ring and Alexa. It seemed to not fully meet the needs of either a dedicated dashcam or a security device for cars.

Amazon also sent emails canceling orders for the Car Cam, citing ongoing availability delays. Customers have reported difficulties in getting the device since its release in January 2023, with some facing long wait times only to have their orders ultimately canceled.

While initial reviews indicated some customers did receive the Car Cam early on, it appears that the product has now become essentially vaporware, with many orders being canceled and limited availability overall.
