SmartLess Media Strikes $100 Million Deal with SiriusXM, Leaving Amazon in the Dust

Hey there, fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to bring you some exciting news in the world of podcasts and exclusive deals. So, grab your popcorn and get ready for the scoop!

First things first, SmartLess is making a big move. They’re waving goodbye to Amazon and saying hello to a multiyear deal with SiriusXM. Yep, you heard that right. The flagship podcast hosted by the hilarious trio of Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes is now part of the SiriusXM family.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. How much did this deal cost SiriusXM? Well, according to anonymous sources, it’s a whopping $100 million! That’s right, folks. SiriusXM is going all-in to bring these popular hosts to their celebrity-packed roster, which already includes big names like Howard Stern, Kevin Hart, and Conan O’Brien.

But what does this mean for SmartLess? Well, it means that their podcast and SmartLess Media will no longer be under Amazon’s wing. Back in 2021, Amazon paid a pretty penny (somewhere between $60 and $80 million) for exclusive rights to SmartLess and any future shows developed by its podcast network.

Now, let’s talk perks. SiriusXM members will have early access to new episodes of SmartLess without any pesky ads. Not only that, but they’ll also get to enjoy three other podcasts from the SmartLess Media network: Just Jack & Jill, Bad Dates, and Owned. And here’s the cherry on top – SiriusXM gets exclusive global ad sales rights to these podcasts too!

Hold on a second though. If you’re a die-hard SmartLess fan but don’t have SiriusXM, don’t worry just yet. New podcast episodes will still be released widely on all podcast players. However, the catch is that most older episodes will no longer be available for free on your player of choice. The complete catalogs of the four SmartLess podcasts will only be accessible on SiriusXM.

Now, let’s talk about podcast exclusivity. It used to be all the rage, but lately, companies have been opting for different strategies. Locking a podcast to a single service or platform can sometimes lead to a drop in audience. So, instead of going for total exclusivity, companies like Spotify have been offering perks like bonus or ad-free content to their subscribers.

And that’s where SiriusXM and SmartLess come in. By giving exclusive access to its entire podcast library, SiriusXM is offering an additional perk to its subscribers without completely limiting the show’s growth. After all, SmartLess is already crushing it in the podcast charts, currently sitting at #8 on Apple Podcasts and #27 on Spotify.

So, even though older episodes may no longer be available on other players, SmartLess will still have access to its loyal audience through wide releases of new episodes. Plus, with SiriusXM’s new app targeting younger listeners, there’s a chance for the show to tap into a whole new audience.

Well, my fellow tech geeks, that’s all the scoop for now. Stay tuned for more exciting news in the ever-evolving world of technology and entertainment. Until next time!
