AI Songwriting on TikTok: Hit or Miss?

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here, ready to dive into the latest news in the world of technology. Today, we’re going to talk about TikTok and its latest feature that combines AI and songwriting. So, let’s get started!

TikTok, known for its viral songs, is now testing a new feature called AI Song that allows users to exercise their songwriting skills with a little help from artificial intelligence. This feature uses the large language model Bloom to generate songs from text prompts. Users can simply write out their lyrics in the text field while making a post, and TikTok will recommend AI Song to add sounds to their creation. They even have the option to toggle the song’s genre. How cool is that?

The Verge reached out to TikTok for comment, and although AI Song doesn’t seem to be available to everyone just yet, some lucky TikTok users have already started experimenting with it. However, the results so far haven’t been too impressive. Despite the availability of auto-tuning vocals, many of the songs created using AI Song are out of tune. For example, TikTok user Jonah Manzano tried to make the word “comedy” have more syllables than necessary in his song. And Kristi Leilani attempted to recreate a Britney Spears song but ended up with severely out-of-tune vocals.

Interestingly enough, AI-generated songs are not new to TikTok. In fact, there was a now infamous AI Drake and The Weeknd song called “Heart on My Sleeve” that went viral on the platform. Even Bad Bunny expressed his criticism towards people listening to an AI sound-alike posted on TikTok.

But TikTok isn’t the only platform embracing generative AI features for its users. YouTube has also started testing a music creation functionality called Dream Track. This feature allows users to create songs from text prompts or even a hummed tune. Users can even create 30-second snippets in the style of other popular artists. It’s like having your own music studio right at your fingertips!

To ensure transparency, TikTok has rolled out other features to help identify AI-created content on the app. They have also updated their rules, requiring users to be upfront about using AI in their content. It’s always good to know when technology is involved, right?

So, my tech-savvy pals, what do you think about TikTok’s AI Song feature? Are you excited to give it a try or do you think it’s better left to the professionals? Let me know in the comments below!
