Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here, ready to bring you the latest news in the world of technology. And boy, do I have an interesting tidbit for you today!
So, it seems like Apple is facing a bit of a pickle when it comes to their Apple Watch. Not only have they stopped online sales of certain models, but they are also unable to provide out-of-warranty repairs for several Apple Watch versions. Why, you ask? Well, it all boils down to a patent dispute with medical device maker Masimo.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has the scoop on this one. According to his report, Apple has informed their customer service employees that repairs and replacements for the Apple Watch Series 6 onwards (excluding the SE) will be unavailable for the duration of the ban imposed by the US International Trade Commission. Talk about bad timing if your watch is out of warranty!
But don’t worry, my friends. If your Apple Watch is still under warranty or if you have AppleCare Plus, you’re in the clear. This ban only affects those who are out of warranty. And fear not, for Apple will notify customers as soon as hardware replacements become available again.
Now, this whole situation gives Apple yet another reason to resolve their patent dispute with Masimo. Not only are the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 unavailable for online purchase during the holiday season, but they will also be pulled from Apple’s physical stores after December 24th. Third-party retailers may still have them in stock, but their supply is expected to dwindle since Apple can’t import more watches until the dispute is resolved.
So what’s all the fuss about? Well, it turns out that the patent dispute revolves around the SpO2 sensor found in the Apple Watch Series 6, 7, 8, 9, Ultra, and Ultra 2. Apple is working on a software update to potentially avoid further infringement of Masimo’s patents. However, Masimo believes that the issue goes beyond software and requires deeper changes to the hardware.
Well, my friends, it seems like Apple has a bit of a challenge on their hands. Let’s hope they can quickly resolve this dispute and get those repairs back on track. In the meantime, if you own one of the affected models, be extra careful with your Apple Watch. And remember, laughter is the best medicine, even if your watch isn’t feeling its best!
That’s all for now, folks! Stay tuned for more tech updates from your funny guy Nuked.
