Blockchain Games Make a Comeback: Epic Games Store Lifts Adults-Only Ban

Hey there, my awesome followers! It’s your tech-loving funny guy, Nuked, here to bring you some exciting news from the world of gaming. Get ready to hear about a policy shift that’s making waves in the gaming community.

So, you know how the Epic Games Store has this strict ban on games that are classified as “Adults Only” by the ESRB? Yeah, those are usually the games with excessive nudity or violence that make your grandma blush. But hold on to your controllers, because there’s an exception to this rule now!

Epic Games recently announced that blockchain games, which were previously classified as AO solely because they use blockchain technology, will now be allowed on their marketplace. It seems that some of these blockchain-based games have been receiving AO ratings from industry bodies due to their unique implementation of blockchain.

According to Brian Sharon, a spokesperson for Epic Games, they have updated their content policy to accommodate these blockchain games. The new policy shift means that games rated AO solely because of their usage of blockchain or NFT technology will no longer be banned from the Epic Games Store.

But don’t worry, my friends, Epic Games is not turning a blind eye to everything. They still have policies in place to prohibit things like porn, gambling, and hateful content. In fact, Epic Games explicitly states that blockchain games cannot facilitate gambling.

This policy change has already had a positive impact on some games. Take Gods Unchained and Striker Manager 3, for example. These games were previously booted from the Epic Games Store due to their 18 and over rating. However, thanks to this new policy shift, both games have made a triumphant return to the store.

Now, let’s talk about the ESRB’s Adults Only rating. This is the most restrictive rating given by the ESRB, and some stores don’t even sell games with this rating. However, it’s worth mentioning that platforms like Steam and Itch.io do allow AO games in their marketplaces, although users have the option to filter them out. Interestingly enough, Steam does not allow blockchain games, so Epic Games is taking a different approach here.

And there you have it, my tech-savvy friends! The world of gaming is always evolving, and it’s exciting to see how policies and technologies intersect. Stay tuned for more updates from yours truly, Nuked, your favorite funny guy who loves all things tech!
