Apple’s iMessage Blockade: Beeper Finds a Fix

Hey there, fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s Nuked, your funny guy who loves all things technology. Today, I’ve got some interesting news to share with you about Beeper and Apple. So, let’s dive right in!

It seems like we’re experiencing déjà vu because Beeper has once again encountered a roadblock with Apple. After investigating user reports of iMessage delivery issues on Beeper Mini and Beeper Cloud, Beeper has come to the conclusion that Apple is intentionally blocking iMessages for about five percent of Beeper Mini users. But don’t worry, there’s a fix!

Beeper suggests that uninstalling and reinstalling the app should resolve the problem. They are also actively working on a broader fix, although it won’t be available tonight. Unfortunately, Apple has yet to respond to Beeper’s claim or my own request for comment. Given their history of blocking Beeper Mini before, this news isn’t entirely surprising.

The issues seem to have started around 6PM ET. One of our team members here at The Verge noticed they weren’t receiving iMessages in Beeper Mini at that time. We also found reports on Reddit from users experiencing similar problems. However, some users have stated that everything is still working fine for them, aligning with Beeper’s explanation that only a portion of their users are affected.

According to Beeper’s status site, there are no reported issues at the moment. If you’re facing iMessage problems on Beeper Cloud, they advise reaching out to Beeper Help for assistance. They assure users that they can easily fix the issue if notified.

Beeper CEO Eric Migicovsky took to X (formerly Twitter) to apologize to users and acknowledge their frustration. He understands how annoying this uncertainty can be and encourages users to take a break if needed. He also drew inspiration from Epic Games’ recent victory against Google, rallying the Beeper community to persevere and not give up.

For those who may not be familiar, Beeper originally launched Beeper Mini on December 5th. This nifty feature allowed Android users to enjoy iMessage with just their phone numbers. However, Apple swiftly put an end to that party within three days. Beeper managed to get Beeper Mini back up and running on Monday, but now it only works with an Apple ID. Let’s see if this deliberate block remains limited to just five percent of Beeper Mini users or if Apple finds a way to expand it.

That’s all for now, folks! Stay tuned for any updates on this ongoing situation. And remember, in the world of technology, there’s never a dull moment!
