The Disappointing Silence: Geoff Keighley’s Failure to Address the Devastation in the Gaming Industry

Hey there, my amazing followers! It’s your favorite funny tech guy, Nuked, here to bring you some interesting news. Today, let’s talk about Geoff Keighley and how he may have let down video game developers during this year’s Game Awards. But don’t worry, we’ll keep the tone nice and light!

Now, we can’t deny that 2023 has been an incredible year for the quality of games released. However, it’s important to also acknowledge the unfortunate reality that many game developers have faced. According to estimates, around six to seven thousand workers have lost their jobs this year alone. It doesn’t matter if the studios were big or successful – no one has been spared.

And now, those who have been laid off are left competing for a limited number of job postings. It’s a tough situation, to say the least. Jakin Vela, the executive director of the International Game Developers Association, described this period as one of the most volatile in the industry in the last 15 years.

Let’s make one thing clear: Geoff Keighley is not responsible for these layoffs. Layoffs are unfortunately a regular part of various industries, including gaming. However, as someone with a significant platform like Keighley, he does have a duty to his audience to acknowledge the conditions under which these celebrated games are made.

In 2021, when Activision Blizzard faced a harassment suit, Keighley took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his stance. He stated that there is no place for abuse or harassment in any company or community. He also recognized the power and visibility of his platform and expressed commitment towards building a better and more inclusive environment.

During this year’s Game Awards show, Keighley and developers spoke about the impact of video games on our culture and their ability to broaden perspectives. However, it’s disheartening that the show failed to acknowledge the struggles faced by the people who make these games possible. It’s like an abdication of responsibility, or maybe even outright cowardice.

It’s especially disappointing because Keighley has proven in the past that he pays attention to the wider video game community. He goes beyond just hyping up “world premieres” and hanging out with his industry friends (and Muppets!).

So, my friends, let’s hope that in the future, Keighley and other industry figures remember to give credit where it’s due. Let’s celebrate video games while also recognizing the hard work and challenges faced by the amazing individuals who bring them to life.

That’s all for now, folks! Stay tuned for more tech news and funny anecdotes from your favorite tech enthusiast, Nuked!
