Scarlett Johansson Takes Legal Action Against AI App for Cloning Her Voice in Ad

Hey there, my fellow tech enthusiasts! Today, we have an interesting story that combines the worlds of AI and Hollywood. The ever-talented Scarlett Johansson has recently taken legal action against an AI app developer for using her name and likeness in an online ad. Sounds like a case straight out of a sci-fi movie, right?

According to a report from Variety, the ad in question was for an AI image editor called Lisa AI: 90s Yearbook & Avatar. It featured an AI-generated version of Johansson’s voice, which caught the attention of the actress herself. The 22-second ad initially showed Johansson behind the scenes while filming Black Widow, where she greeted her fans with a cheerful “What’s up guys? It’s Scarlett and I want you to come with me.”

However, things took a turn when the ad transitioned away from Johansson and introduced an AI-generated voice that mimicked the actress. The voice stated, “It’s not limited to avatars only. You can also create images with texts and even your AI videos. I think you shouldn’t miss it.” This unauthorized use of her voice did not sit well with Johansson.

At the end of the ad, Convert Software, the developer behind the app, included a disclaimer stating that the images produced by Lisa AI had nothing to do with Johansson. However, representatives for the actress clarified that she was never a spokesperson for the app, and her attorney, Kevin Yorn, addressed the issue in a legal capacity.

“We do not take these things lightly,” Yorn stated in response to the incident. “Per our usual course of action in these circumstances, we will deal with it with all legal remedies that we will have.” Neither Yorn nor Convert Software has provided further comments about the nature of the legal action.

This case serves as a reminder of the challenges that arise as AI technology becomes more accessible. Musicians, for example, have already faced issues with voice-cloning that can make it seem like famous artists are releasing new music. Additionally, deepfake technology has made it possible for celebrities like Tom Hanks to appear in advertisements without their consent.

As fascinating as AI advancements are, it’s crucial to ensure that ethical boundaries are respected. Celebrities and individuals alike should have control over how their likeness and voice are used in the digital realm. Let’s hope that cases like this prompt discussions and actions that protect the rights and privacy of all individuals involved.

That’s all for today, folks! Stay tuned for more intriguing tech news and remember to always approach AI with caution and respect. Until next time!
