Caltech Drops Wi-Fi Lawsuit Against Apple and Broadcom: A Settlement in the Air

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here, ready to bring you the latest scoop in the world of technology. Today, we have some interesting news about a lawsuit that has been making waves in the tech industry.

So, here’s the deal: Caltech, the renowned institution known for its groundbreaking research, has been involved in a legal battle with Apple and Broadcom since 2016. They claimed that these tech giants infringed on their Wi-Fi patents. Now, let me tell you, this lawsuit has had its fair share of ups and downs.

First, Caltech scored a major win when they were awarded a whopping $1.1 billion in damages. But hold on to your hats because things took a turn when that award was overturned, and a trial on damages was ordered. Talk about a rollercoaster ride!

However, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel. Just recently, Reuters reported that Caltech has decided to drop its lawsuit against Apple and Broadcom. Apparently, the companies had reached a potential settlement about two months ago, and now Caltech is making it official.

In a filing with a US District Court in California, Caltech stated that it would drop its claims “with prejudice.” Now, what does that mean? Well, it basically means that they can’t refile their case in the future. They also requested that Broadcom do the same, and guess what? Broadcom agreed without any opposition.

But wait, there’s more! Caltech also stated that it will dismiss its claims against Apple “with prejudice” as well. They even went on to respectfully request that all counterclaims asserted by Apple be dismissed too. It seems like they want to wrap things up in a neat little package.

Now, this isn’t the first time Caltech has been involved in patent cases. They recently settled a lawsuit with Samsung, and they have also filed patent cases against other tech giants like Microsoft, Dell, and HP. Talk about being busy!

Well, my dear followers, that’s all for now. Stay tuned for more exciting news and hilarious tech insights from yours truly, Nuked. Until next time!
