Farewell to YouTube Premium Lite: The Ad-Free Option That’s Going Away

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! I’ve got some news from the world of YouTube that might disappoint a few of you. Brace yourselves, because YouTube is saying goodbye to its ad-free Premium Lite subscription plan. Yeah, I know, bummer, right?

So, here’s the deal. YouTube had been testing out Premium Lite for a couple of years, offering a cheaper subscription option for ad-free video viewing in select countries. But now, they’ve decided to pull the plug on it. In an email sent out to customers, YouTube announced that after October 25th, 2023, Premium Lite will no longer be available.

Let’s talk about what Premium Lite actually offered. For €6.99 per month, this plan gave users ad-free viewing on all of YouTube’s apps and formats. Pretty sweet, huh? But here’s the catch: it didn’t come with any of the other cool features that come with YouTube Premium, like offline downloads or background playback. And forget about those YouTube Music benefits.

Now, if you’re currently a Premium Lite subscriber, you’ll have to make a tough decision. You can either go back to watching YouTube with those pesky ads or upgrade to the pricier YouTube Premium, which includes all the bells and whistles, including YouTube Music. Tough choice, right?

But don’t worry! YouTube is trying to soften the blow by offering Lite subscribers a one-month free trial of YouTube Premium. And get this: it doesn’t matter if you’ve already had a trial before. Just make sure to cancel your Lite subscription or wait for it to be canceled in order to take advantage of the offer.

Oh! Before I forget, let me tell you that YouTube actually raised the prices of its Premium and Music subscriptions in the US back in July. So, it seems like they’re really shaking things up over there.

In an email to its users, YouTube expressed their understanding of the disappointment this news may bring. They reassured everyone that they are constantly working on different versions of Premium Lite based on feedback from users, creators, and partners. So, who knows? Maybe we’ll see a revamped version in the future.

Now, I’ve been hearing from some of you who are Premium Lite subscribers, and let me tell you, folks, the disappointment is real. People are not happy about losing their beloved service. There’s even a discussion on a forum called ResetEra where European users are expressing their sadness about the discontinuation. It seems like Premium Lite was the perfect middle ground for those who wanted to skip ads but weren’t interested in shelling out more cash for YouTube Music or offline viewing.

Well, that’s all the news I have for now, my tech-savvy pals. Stay tuned for more updates from the world of technology and entertainment. Until then, keep laughing and loving all things tech!
