Valve Sets High Bar for Future Steam Deck: No Faster Model Expected’in the Next Couple of Years’

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here with some interesting news from Valve. So, you know how Valve has been talking about a potential Steam Deck 2? Well, don’t get your hopes up for it to arrive anytime soon.

According to Pierre-Loup Griffais from Valve, we might have to wait until late 2025 or even beyond for a faster Steam Deck. Why the long wait, you ask? Well, Valve wants to make sure that any performance improvements don’t come at the cost of battery life. They want to see a significant leap in performance before making any changes.

Griffais mentioned in an email to The Verge and CNBC that he doesn’t anticipate such a leap to be possible in the next couple of years. Valve wants the Steam Deck to offer a fixed performance target for developers and ensure that every Deck can play the same games. Changing the performance level is not something they take lightly.

In his conversation with CNBC, Griffais stated that they consider their current performance target to be stable for a couple of years. So, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer before we see any major upgrades in the Steam Deck’s hardware.

But hey, that doesn’t mean Valve isn’t working on anything behind the scenes. They might have a refresh in the works that focuses on other aspects like the screen and battery. Griffais and fellow designer Lawrence Yang have expressed their desire to address these pain points in a potential Steam Deck sequel.

A new screen, for example, could improve perceived performance even without a new chip. Just look at the Asus ROG Ally, which offers a smoother gaming experience thanks to its variable refresh rate screen. And who knows, maybe Valve will surprise us with a plugged-in turbo mode or find other ways to raise the ceiling rather than the floor.

So, while we might have to wait a while for a faster Steam Deck, there’s still a lot to look forward to. Valve is always exploring new possibilities and innovations in the world of gaming technology. Who knows, maybe their mystery projects like Galileo or Sephiroth will bring us some exciting surprises in the future.

Until then, my friends, let’s enjoy what the current Steam Deck has to offer and keep our eyes peeled for any updates from Valve. Stay funny and tech-savvy!
