Meta’s Next Generation of Smart Glasses: A Glimpse into the Future

Hey there, my tech-savvy followers! I’ve got some exciting news for you today. It looks like Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, is gearing up to release their next pair of smart glasses in partnership with Luxottica, the owner of Ray-Ban. How do I know this? Well, thanks to the eagle eyes of Janko Roettgers from Lowpass, a listing for a new pair of smart glasses by Luxottica Group has popped up in the FCC’s database.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The original Ray-Ban Stories were also listed under Luxottica, and there have been recent reports about a second-generation version of these smart glasses. So, it’s safe to say that these FCC filings are most likely for the new and improved specs we’ve been waiting for.

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and revisit the original Ray-Ban Stories. These nifty glasses allowed you to capture photos and videos using the built-in cameras next to the lenses. You could then view your captures on a companion app. They even had microphones and speakers for capturing and playing audio. But, here’s the kicker – they didn’t quite become the hit Meta was hoping for. According to The Wall Street Journal, less than 10 percent of people who bought these smart glasses actually use them on a monthly basis. Ouch!

However, despite the lackluster usage stats, Meta seems determined to soldier on and give us a second-generation version. According to Roettgers, these new smart glasses will not only allow you to live stream video directly to Facebook and Instagram but also let you hear comments from your viewers in real-time. Imagine being able to interact with your audience while wearing these futuristic specs! The Wall Street Journal also mentioned that the new glasses will have improved battery life and better cameras. Sounds promising, right?

Now, before you get too excited, let me bring you back down to earth. Meta hasn’t officially commented on these FCC filings yet. However, they are hosting their Connect conference on September 27th and 28th. So, fingers crossed that we’ll get some juicy details about these new smart glasses during the event. Speaking of which, we already know that Meta plans to spill the beans on the Meta Quest 3 at the conference, which is set to be released this fall. Oh, and guess what? The Meta Quest 3 has also recently made its way through the FCC. Looks like Meta is determined to meet their deadlines!

Well, my fellow tech enthusiasts, that’s all I have for you today. Stay tuned for more updates on Meta’s smart glasses and all the other exciting tech news coming your way!
