Hey there, my hilarious tech-loving followers! I’ve got some exciting news for you today. According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) is setting the bar high for its next AI model, GPT-4. They’ve been busy acquiring AI training chips and building data centers to create a chatbot that can rival OpenAI’s impressive GPT-4.
Meta is planning to kick off the training process for this new language model in early 2024. And guess what? CEO Mark Zuckerberg is determined to make it free for companies to develop their own AI tools with. Now that’s some generous thinking!
The Journal reveals that Meta has been stocking up on Nvidia H100 AI-training chips and strengthening its infrastructure. This time around, they won’t have to depend on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to train their chatbot. They’ve even formed a dedicated team earlier this year to speed up the development of AI tools that can mimic human expressions. How cool is that?
It seems like Meta’s goal aligns perfectly with the rumored generative AI features they’ve been working on. In fact, there was a leak in June about an Instagram chatbot with 30 different personalities being tested. Sounds a lot like the “personas” that Meta is rumored to be launching this month, right?
Now, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Meta. They’ve had some challenges with AI researcher turnover due to the distribution of computing resources among multiple LLM projects this year. Plus, they’re facing some tough competition in the generative AI space. OpenAI made it clear in April that they won’t be training a GPT-5 anytime soon, but Apple seems confident in its own “Ajax” AI model, pouring millions of dollars into its development.
Let’s not forget about Google and Microsoft, who have been expanding their use of AI in productivity tools. Google has its eyes set on using generative AI in Google Assistant, while Amazon has its own generative AI initiatives brewing, which could potentially power a chatbot-driven Alexa. The race is on!
So, my tech-loving friends, it looks like the future of AI is getting brighter and funnier. Meta is aiming high with GPT-4, and with all the competition in the field, we’re in for some exciting developments. Stay tuned for more updates!
