Google’s Mixed Reality Dreams Face Setbacks: Project Moohan and Project Iris AR Glasses

According to a report from Insider, Google’s plan to launch a mixed reality headset with Samsung, codenamed Project Moohan, is facing some serious hurdles. This rumored device aims to provide an immersive mixed reality experience powered by the Android platform and has been in the works since last year.

However, it seems like Project Moohan has become a “political headache” at Google. Sources reveal that Samsung wants to have more control over the project’s product features and doesn’t want other Google hardware divisions to get involved, fearing they might create a rival product. Talk about drama!

But fear not, my friends! Google isn’t completely giving up on AR glasses. A report from SBS Biz suggests that Samsung is taking the reins of Project Moohan, causing a delay in production. This means we might have to wait until next year to see the new headset in action.

Despite the setback, some Google employees believe that even with the delay, the device won’t be able to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro. Ouch! That’s another blow to Google’s mixed reality plans, which once included spectacles capable of real-time text translation.

Insider reports that Google is exploring ways to incorporate AI into AR glasses and is even integrating Iris’ software into another project called Betty. This project aims to create a “Micro XR” software that can be pitched to manufacturers building glasses. How cool is that?

Now, let’s talk about Betty and Barry. Betty might be monocular, projecting an image in front of one lens, while Barry will utilize both lenses. It seems like Google is cooking up some exciting stuff, folks!
