Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Recall Investigation: Power Failure Concerns Spark NHTSA Query

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here with some interesting news about Ford’s Mustang Mach-E recall. Hold on tight, because this one’s a bit of a bumpy ride.

Ford found themselves in a bit of a pickle last year when they had to issue a recall for almost 49,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles. The recall was due to a malfunction that caused the electric SUV’s high-voltage contactors to overheat. And trust me, you don’t want your EV suddenly losing power while cruising down the road. Talk about a heart-stopping moment!

In response to the recall, Ford came up with an over-the-air software update that would reduce power if the contactors got too hot. They wanted to prevent any sudden power loss and potential damage to the contacts. They even put a hold on new Mach-E deliveries until the software update was installed. Safety first, right?

But here’s where things get interesting. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) is now investigating Ford’s response to the recall. Apparently, they received 12 consumer complaints about Ford’s solution. These complaints alleged a high voltage battery main contactor failure in MY 2021-2022 Ford Mach-E vehicles that had already been fixed as part of the recall.

One customer even had to replace the High Voltage Battery Junction Box twice for the same electrical system issue. And another complaint mentioned that the failure reoccurred after getting the software update. Yikes!

Now, NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation is opening a Recall Query (RQ) to get to the bottom of this. They want to figure out if Ford’s solution was effective or if there are still lingering issues with these vehicles. In total, an estimated 64,727 vehicles are now part of the investigation. That’s quite a number!
