According to reports from the New York Post, MindGeek’s CEO and COO stepped down last year, and the company was taken over by Ethical Capital Partners in March. And now, they feel like a fresh start is in order. Hence the rebranding to Aylo. They say it represents their renewed commitment to innovation, diverse and inclusive adult content, and trust and safety.

But let’s not forget about the controversies that MindGeek has faced over the years. They’ve had some serious issues with moderation, including the presence of child sexual abuse videos on their platforms. This led to Visa and Mastercard cutting ties with Pornhub in 2020 due to the “unlawful content” found there.

Now, in an attempt to distance themselves from their troubled past, Aylo is blocking access to its websites in states with restrictive laws. And perhaps the new name is part of their strategy to leave behind their problematic reputation.

Interestingly enough, Aylo wants us all to know that their new name is utterly meaningless. Yep, you won’t find it in any dictionary. At least not yet. Maybe they’re planning on creating their own definition for Aylo. Who knows?
