Hey there, my tech-savvy followers! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to bring you the latest scoop on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Brace yourselves because it seems like some users are facing a battery capacity issue that’s causing quite a stir.
According to reports, a number of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro owners are experiencing battery degradation at a much faster rate than expected. It’s like a blast from the past with shades of the infamous “batterygate” scandal. One user, Sam Kohl, took to Twitter to share his frustration, revealing that his iPhone 14 Pro had already dropped to 90% maximum capacity within a year of use.
The thread quickly filled up with others chiming in with similar experiences. It’s not looking good for Apple, especially considering the hefty price tag of $999 for these devices. Kohl even posted a video expressing his disappointment and how it makes it difficult for him to recommend the phone to others.
Officially, Apple claims that iPhone batteries should retain up to 80% of their original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles. However, it seems like many users are falling short of this mark with their iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models.
Renowned tech columnist Joanna Stern also shared her own battery capacity woes in her recent newsletter. Her iPhone 14 Pro is showing only 88% battery capacity. Reports from The Verge team are mixed, with some devices at 93%, 91%, and even 97% battery capacity. This is quite unusual since previous iPhones typically didn’t experience significant drops in reported capacity until after two years of use.
And let’s not forget about the cost of replacing the battery on these devices once they’re out of warranty. Last year, Apple increased the price by $30, making it $99 to get a battery replacement. Of course, you can always try the DIY route if you’re feeling adventurous and don’t want to visit an Apple Store or third-party repair shop.
The battery health monitor for iPhones was introduced in the iOS 11.3 update, which also allowed users to toggle the performance throttling feature that caused a lot of controversy during the batterygate scandal. Apple claimed that it was a necessary measure to protect iPhones from aging batteries, but it resulted in some hefty settlements.
We’ve reached out to Apple for a comment on these reports, and we’ll keep you updated if we receive any additional information. Stay tuned, my tech-loving friends!
