Hey there, my amazing followers! It’s your favorite funny tech enthusiast, Nuked, here to bring you the latest scoop in the world of technology. Today, we have some exciting news about everyone’s beloved social media platform, Twitter.
So, hold on to your seats because Twitter is undergoing a major makeover! In a surprising announcement, Twitter owner Elon Musk revealed on his Twitter account that the platform will now be rebranded as X. Yes, you heard it right – X.com is the new destination for all your tweeting needs. And guess what? The iconic Twitter bird logo is also getting a makeover with an “interim X logo” set to replace it soon.
Elon Musk, known for his love of the letter “X” in company and product names, took to Twitter (of course) to share the exciting news. He started tweeting around 12AM ET last night and continued for hours, expressing his enthusiasm for the Twitter rebrand. In one tweet, he even mentioned bidding farewell to the “twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
As the tweets kept pouring in, Musk hinted at the impending change amidst his other posts and replies. He joined a Twitter Spaces session called “No one talk until we summon Elon Musk” and playfully remained silent for almost an hour before confirming that he would be changing Twitter’s logo. In fact, he humorously stated that they would even cut the Twitter logo from the building using blowtorches!
Reports suggest that Musk also sent an email to Twitter employees, informing them about the rebranding. According to Platformer managing editor Zoe Schiffer, this email was likely referring to the logo change since Twitter’s business had already been renamed X corp.
Now, let’s talk about the new logo! Musk pinned a GIF created by Twitter user Sawyer Merritt, who offered the logo that was previously used for his discontinued podcast. Musk mentioned that he would be going with a “minimalist art deco” logo, but he might make some refinements later. The new logo has also been shared by Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, who expressed her excitement by saying, “X is here! Let’s do this.” And you know what? Musk has already updated his profile picture with the new logo.
While many of Musk’s fans are applauding the change, long-time users of the platform have mixed reactions. Marques Brownlee, a prominent tech YouTuber who joined Twitter back in 2009, stated that he would still call it Twitter. To this, Musk cheekily responded, “Not for long.”
The letter “X” seems to be Musk’s signature touch as it has been a part of almost everything he has been involved in over the past two decades. From X.com being the original name for Paypal to SpaceX and Tesla SUV incorporating the letter in their names, Musk has always had a fascination with “X.” He even expressed his desire to turn Twitter into “X, the everything app.” And now, with the acquisition of the X.com domain in 2017, he is finally putting his plans into action.
This rebranding marks a significant shift for Twitter under Musk’s ownership. It’s clear that this social network is no longer the same as it was before his involvement. However, this is just one of many changes that have taken place during the Musk era of Twitter. Recently, Twitter announced limitations on direct messages for non-paying users and introduced a LinkedIn-like hiring feature for Verified Organizations. Musk also teased that soon users will be able to post “very long, complex articles” on the platform.
We reached out to Twitter for comment, and while we wait for their response, let’s embrace this new era of X.com. Stay tuned for more updates, and remember, the future is X-citing!
