Elon Musk’s Solution to Twitter Spam: Pay for Unlimited DMs with Twitter Blue

Hey there, my hilarious tech-loving followers! I’ve got some interesting news for you about Twitter’s latest move to combat spambots. Brace yourselves for this one!

According to a recent announcement from Twitter Support, the social media giant is planning to implement daily limits on the number of direct messages that unverified accounts can send. Why, you ask? Well, it’s all in an effort to reduce spam. Makes sense, right?

So, here’s the deal. If you want to send unlimited DMs and avoid those pesky limitations, you’ll need to get yourself a Twitter Blue subscription. Yes, my friends, it seems like Elon Musk’s best idea for stopping spambots involves a little bit of cash.

Now, Twitter didn’t spill all the beans about what these daily DM limits will be. They’re keeping us in suspense! But fear not, my tech-savvy pals, the changes are set to be implemented starting from Friday.

When asked for comment, Twitter’s press email surprised us with an actual response instead of an emoji (no poop emojis this time). They promised to get back to us soon. How polite!

Curious about how Elon Musk fits into all of this? Well, let me enlighten you. Musk has been quite vocal about his concerns regarding spam on Twitter. Back in April 2022, before he officially acquired the company, he tweeted that if his bid succeeded, they would “defeat the spam bots or die trying!” Talk about determination!

However, things took a slight detour when Musk put the Twitter acquisition on hold. He wanted more details to support Twitter’s claim that bots and spam accounted for less than five percent of its monthly active users. He wasn’t going to move forward until they proved it. The acquisition eventually went through, but it wasn’t without its challenges.

Last week, Twitter introduced a new DM setting aimed at reducing spam. But surprise, surprise, it also serves as another way to promote Twitter Blue. If you have your DMs open, the new setting will move messages from verified users you don’t follow into a separate “message request” inbox. Sneaky, right?

But here’s the kicker: this change also disables the ability for non-Twitter Blue subscribers to message you altogether. Don’t worry, though, you can switch back to allowing message requests from everyone if you know where to look. It’s like a secret treasure hunt!

And just when you thought things couldn’t get more interesting, Musk decided to throw in some “temporary” rate limits on reading tweets a few weeks ago. Those limits favored Twitter Blue subscribers, allowing them to read more tweets than unverified users. We’re not sure if those limits are still in effect, but it certainly adds an extra twist to the story.

So there you have it, folks! Twitter is taking a stand against spambots and making you pay for extra DM privileges in the process. Will this be the ultimate solution? Only time will tell. Until then, stay funny and keep embracing the wonderful world of technology!
