Google’s AI-Generated Meet Video Backgrounds: A Creative Twist for Virtual Meetings

Hey there, my tech-loving followers! It’s your funny guy Nuked here, ready to share some exciting news from the world of Google. So, listen up: Google is currently testing AI-generated Meet video backgrounds, and it’s got me intrigued.

Now, I have to admit, I’ve never been a fan of blurring out or replacing my office background with generic images. After all, I take pride in the little details that make my workspace uniquely mine. I mean, who wouldn’t want to show off their Doctor Zhivago DVD collection, right?

But here’s the thing – Google’s new AI-generated backgrounds might just change my mind. According to reports from XDA-Developers and 9to5Google, this feature is currently being tested in Google’s Workspace Labs. And guess what? It looks pretty cool!

One Twitter user, Artem Russakovskii, spotted the feature and shared his excitement. Apparently, if you already have access to it, using these backgrounds is a breeze. Just click on the effects icon in the bottom right of your preview video before joining a meeting, type in a prompt describing what you’d like, and choose from a selection of categories. Simple as that!

And here’s another neat trick – if you’re already in a meeting and want to switch things up, you can find the option tucked away in the “Apply vision effects” menu under the three dots. It’s all about convenience, my friends.

Now, I tried to test this feature myself, but unfortunately, I seem to be missing out on the initial rollout. Bummer! But don’t worry – Google assures us that they’re gradually rolling it out and it might not be available to everyone just yet.

Maybe I’m better off not having access for now. I can already imagine myself creating bizarre H.R. Giger-themed rollercoaster backgrounds, which wouldn’t exactly scream “professionalism.” But hey, you might have better luck than me!

If you’re itching to give it a go and you’re not part of the Workspace Labs testing program, you can request to join on Google’s website. And if you need a reminder on how to get those AI-generated backgrounds for your meetings, just head over to Google’s support page and check it out for yourself.

Now, before you dive in, there’s an important thing to keep in mind. Google’s privacy policy for personal accounts in Workspace Labs states that “human reviewers read, annotate, and process your Workspace Labs data” to enhance the features. So, just be aware of that.

Speaking of competition, Google’s AI work tools are going head-to-head with Microsoft 365’s AI Copilot suite. Microsoft is charging businesses $30 monthly per person for its offering. In contrast, Google is inviting users to sign up for its Search and AI Workspace Labs, where they can test out various AI experiments like Bard chatbot and its AI-generated summaries.

So, there you have it, folks! Google is pushing the boundaries of AI once again with its AI-generated Meet video backgrounds. It’s an exciting time for tech enthusiasts like us. Let’s embrace the future and see where it takes us!
