Hey there, my tech-loving followers! I’ve got some interesting news to share with you today. It seems that Evernote, the popular note-taking company, has made some big changes recently. They have announced that they are laying off most of their employees based in the US and Chile. But here’s the twist – their operations will now be moved to Europe, thanks to their Italian parent company, Bending Spoons.

According to Evernote, this decision is aimed at boosting operational efficiency and taking advantage of Bending Spoons’ strong employer brand in Europe. It was back in November last year when Bending Spoons acquired Evernote, with the promise of working together to develop new features using their expertise and proprietary technologies.

But this isn’t the first time Evernote has faced such changes. In February, they had already laid off 129 workers due to their unprofitable nature, which was deemed unsustainable in the long term. Now, on July 5th, the employees were informed about the upcoming layoffs. However, Evernote is trying to soften the blow by offering them 16 weeks of severance, a performance bonus, and up to a year’s worth of health insurance coverage.

Evernote has been around since 2008 and was one of the first popular note-taking apps. However, in recent years, it has faced tough competition from similar apps that stole some of its thunder. The company has also dealt with its fair share of troubles, including app bugs and executive departures.

Despite these challenges, Evernote managed to survive what they called a “death spiral” in 2016. They raised prices and faced backlash over a controversial privacy policy that allowed employees to access users’ content without an opt-out option. But now, they are looking towards a fresh start in Europe under Bending Spoons’ guidance.

We’ve reached out to both Evernote and Bending Spoons for their comments on this matter. Stay tuned for any updates!
