Hello there, my beloved followers! It’s your favorite tech enthusiast, Nuked, here to give you the latest scoop on Twitter’s edit button. Last fall, Twitter finally gave in to the demands of its users and introduced an edit button. However, it was only available to Twitter Blue subscribers and limited to changes on original tweets within 30 minutes of posting. But now, there’s some good news for Blue subscribers.
The official Twitter Blue account announced that the tweet editing window has been doubled to one hour. The post announcing the feature was edited moments after it went live to reflect the change. However, the post didn’t add any other edits past the thirty-minute mark to show how the new feature works. Despite this confusion, it’s still a welcome change for those who want more time to edit their tweets.
The perk of editing tweets is one of the features highlighted in the subscription package that Twitter Blue offers. This feature arrived after Elon Musk expressed his interest in buying Twitter but before he actually did. Even after Musk’s revamp of Blue and the installation of new CEO Linda Yaccarino on Monday, it’s still a feature that paying users can enjoy along with a blue verified checkmark label and other perks like writing posts with up to 4,000 characters.
Twitter’s support page for Blue was updated shortly after the announcement to reflect the new one-hour time limit. According to my colleague David Pierce, Twitter has been careful with this feature and seems to have landed in the right place. So far, there haven’t been any significant issues with editing tweets. Plus, direct access to the history of edited tweets makes changes easy to spot.
However, despite these positive changes, Blue signups have been slow. Some blue-checked tweeters have complained that various parts of the package aren’t working for them. For example, reduced ads were a feature advertised since Blue’s November relaunch, but it still hasn’t rolled out. According to the support page, they’re working on it, and it’ll reduce the number of ads you see.
As for the ad revenue split that Elon Musk promised in February, it still hasn’t arrived. In a recent interview, Musk said that it’s still in the works and will be backdated to his original announcement with “some reasonable revenue share.” However, this is a complicated promise from a company that’s been in recent reports for not paying its rent and other fees. Twitter is now worth only one-third of the price Musk paid for it last year, and ad sales for five weeks this spring were reportedly down 59 percent from the same period last year.
In conclusion, Twitter’s edit button has been given a much-needed extension to one hour for Blue subscribers. While there are some issues with other parts of the subscription package, it’s still a valuable tool for those who want to make changes to their tweets. As always, stay tuned for more updates from me, Nuked, your funny tech guy!
