The Witcher: Casting a Spell on Gamers with Record-Breaking Sales

Hey there, my fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to talk about the massive success of The Witcher game series. CD Projekt Red recently shared some mind-blowing data that sheds light on just how huge this franchise really is.

According to CDPR, The Witcher video games have sold over 75 million copies worldwide, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being responsible for more than 50 million of those sales. This puts the series in the same league as other smash hits like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Red Dead Redemption 2, which have both sold over 53 million copies and are considered among the top-selling games ever.

But the growth of The Witcher franchise doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. CDPR has released a next-gen update for The Witcher 3 in December and has several other Witcher games in the works, including a remake of the first game, a new Witcher trilogy, and a spinoff codenamed “Project Sirius” (although they recently announced they’re reassessing the game).

Of course, we hope that these new titles will fare better at launch than Cyberpunk 2077. While CDPR has largely turned that game around and released a next-gen patch in February 2022, it had a rocky start. But we can look forward to hearing more about Cyberpunk 2077 soon since its upcoming major expansion, Phantom Liberty, starring Idris Elba, will be at Summer Game Fest’s invite-only Play Days event in June.

It’s not just video games that are capitalizing on The Witcher’s massive success. Netflix has renewed its Witcher TV series for a fifth season even though the third season hasn’t started streaming yet. However, season three will be the last with Henry Cavill as Geralt; Liam Hemsworth will take over starting with season four.

All in all, The Witcher is a force to be reckoned with, and its continued success is a testament to its incredible storytelling, immersive gameplay, and loyal fan base. Here’s to hoping that CDPR keeps delivering fantastic Witcher content for years to come!

What do you think about The Witcher’s success? Are you excited for the upcoming games and TV series? Let me know in the comments below!
