Hey there, tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to talk about the latest news in the tech world. And today’s hot topic is Apple’s $50 million butterfly keyboard settlement, which has finally been approved by a federal court judge in California.
For those who don’t know, Apple laptops from 2015 to 2019 had a new keyboard design that didn’t hold up under normal use. This caused keys to fail or stick due to crumbs, dirt, or accumulated dust. The problem persisted despite Apple’s attempts to fix it until the release of the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019, which reverted to the “scissor switch” design.
The settlement will compensate the 86,000 people who filed claims for repairs they had paid for due to the faulty keyboard design. Apple’s settlement doesn’t admit any wrongdoing but will pay some people up to $395 to cover their repair costs.
However, the settlement faced objections from six individuals who argued that it wasn’t fair to MacBook owners who hadn’t repaired their failed keyboards (and therefore won’t receive any cash). They also claimed that the $125 offered to those who’d only paid for one replacement wasn’t enough to cover the cost of repairs. Despite their objections, Judge Davila denied them and approved the settlement.
In short, anyone who filed a verifiable claim for keyboard money by the March deadline will receive their compensation soon. So, if you’re one of those affected by this issue, keep an eye out for your payment!
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more exciting tech news and updates from your favorite funny guy!
