Sony and Konami have just announced a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, but there’s a bit of confusion about its name. The logo reads Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, but what does that symbol actually mean?

At first, I assumed it translated to Metal Gear Solid Delta, but then I read Kotaku’s article and they referred to it as Metal Gear Solid Triangle: Snake Eater. This left me scratching my head and wondering if we had gotten it wrong. So, I went straight to the source and asked Konami’s public relations team how we should pronounce the game’s name.

The answer? Delta. According to Konami’s head of communications for the Americas, Tommy Williams, the symbol was chosen because “the meaning that the symbol has fits the concept of the remake project.” While I’m still not sure how exactly it fits, at least we know for sure that it’s Delta and not Triangle.

Now, some of you may be thinking, “Who cares? It’s just a name.” But let me tell you, this is a big deal. Remember the debate over how to pronounce “tears” in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Yeah, this is that level of importance.

So, now that we’ve got that settled, let’s talk about the game itself. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC. As a fan of the original game, I’m excited to see what they’ll do with this remake. And who knows? Maybe we’ll even learn how that Delta symbol fits into the concept of the project.
