Hey there, my fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy and lover of all things tech, Nuked. Today, we’re going to talk about the recent interview with Elon Musk on CNBC, where he defended his right to say whatever he wants on Twitter, even if it means losing money.
The interview took an odd turn when Musk appeared to disassociate after being asked why he bothers tweeting. This came after a troubling series of tweets where he promoted conspiracy theories and made statements that were criticized as racist and anti-semitic.
CNBC’s David Farmer asked Musk why he tweets these things, knowing they could potentially hurt the companies he runs and lose him customers. After an uncomfortable pause, Musk quoted a scene from The Princess Bride to explain his cavalier attitude towards what he shares on Twitter. He basically said that he’ll say what he wants, and if it means losing money, so be it.
As the CEO of a public company, Musk does have limits to what he can say on Twitter or elsewhere. If he tweets misleading things about Tesla, shareholders can sue him. This has happened before when he tweeted about taking the company private at $420 a share. He was fined $40 million by the Securities and Exchange Commission and lost his chairmanship of Tesla.
Despite all the headaches his tweets have caused him over the years, Musk continues to tweet whatever he wants. His followers and shareholders have implored him to stop, but he doubles down again and again. It’s inconceivable!
So, what do you think about Elon Musk’s defense of his Twitter behavior? Let me know in the comments below!
