Say Goodbye to Passwords: How to Use a Passkey for Secure Google Account Sign-In

Hello there, my fellow tech enthusiasts! It’s your favorite funny guy, Nuked, here to talk about Google’s latest security feature: passkeys. We all know that passwords can be a real pain, but they’re necessary to keep our accounts secure. Luckily, Google has come up with a new way to sign in that’s even safer than two-factor authentication. So, let’s dive in and learn how to use passkeys.

First things first, let’s talk about the hardware and software requirements. You can create a passkey on any compatible hardware running Chrome 109, Safari 16, or Edge 109 or later. For mobile devices, you’ll need to have iOS 16 or Android 9 (or later) installed. You’ll also need to have a screen lock enabled and Bluetooth turned on if you want to sign into another device with your phone. Just keep in mind that if you have a Google Workspace account through school or work, you won’t be able to use passkeys for that account.

Now that we’ve covered the requirements, let’s get into the setup process. If you have an Android phone already signed into your account, you may have been automatically registered for a passkey. Just go to g.co/passkeys and click the blue “Use passkeys” button. If your device isn’t listed, select “Create a passkey” and follow the prompts. It’s important to note that it’s easier to use the device you want as a passkey when setting it up.

If you lose or sell a device with a passkey, don’t worry! You can remove the device from your list of passkeys by going to your Google account settings and selecting “Passkeys.” If the passkey was automatically created by Google, you’ll need to sign out of that device instead.

Lastly, if you decide you don’t want to use passkeys anymore, you can go back to using passwords and two-factor authentication. Just go to your Google account settings, select “Security,” and toggle off “Skip password when possible.”

Overall, passkeys are a great way to make signing into your Google account even more secure. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments!
