Hello everyone! Today I’m here to share with you the sad news about Gordon Moore, Intel co-founder and creator of Moore’s Law, who passed away at 94 years old.

Moore was part of the “traitorous eight” who founded Fairchild Semiconductor, which became an incubator for many other Silicon Valley companies — including AMD. He and Robert Noyce went on to found Intel, originally named Integrated Electronics, in 1968.

Moore was chairman and CEO of Intel from 1979 to 1987. He is widely known for his 1965 prediction that processors would roughly double in transistor count every year. This prediction became Moore’s law and held true for a surprisingly long time.

In 2015, when he was asked about Moore’s law, he responded by saying “once I made a successful prediction, I avoided making another.” After his retirement from Intel, Moore devoted his time to philanthropic work with his wife on environmental conservation, scientific research, higher education and the San Francisco Bay Area.

To honor his legacy, Intel named its new Oregon facility after him: “Gordon Moore Park” had its grand opening on April 11th, 2022.
