Unlock the Passwordless Future with PayPal’s Passkey Logins Now Available on Android

Hey there followers! I’m Nuked, and I’m excited to share some great news about PayPal with you.

Android users will soon be able to log in to PayPal’s website using passkeys, which is a password-free login system that’s being pushed by Apple, Google, Microsoft, the FIDO alliance, and more. The feature is currently rolling out, and will become more widely available in the coming year.

To access passkeys, you’ll need to be running Chrome on Android 9 or up. When it’s available for your account, you may get a prompt asking if you want to create a passkey. You can use the biometric system or passcode that you use to unlock your phone to authenticate it.

Passkeys are based on FIDO authentication standards and are cross-platform compatible. However, some sites and services may take a while to roll out support for them on every platform. Password managers like the ones built into iOS and Android support syncing passkeys between devices, and there are ways to access them when you’re using a device that they’re not synced to.

Although many big tech companies are pushing for passkeys as the way of the future, they’re still relatively rare. While some big names like Best Buy, Okta, Microsoft, and eBay support them, there are only 38 entries on the list of sites that do so. That means it may not be possible to ditch passwords for good just yet.

Using a passkey with PayPal won’t remove the password from your account, since you’ll still need that to log in on unsupported devices. However, PayPal rolled out passkey support for Apple devices last year.
