Waiting for Unreal: Epic’s Silence on Free’Unreal Tournament 3 X’ Continues Three Months Later

Hey there tech-lovers, it’s Nuked here!

Remember when I told you about how Epic Games was working on a completely free version of Unreal Tournament 3 with no microtransactions or strings attached? It’s been three months since then and Epic Games still hasn’t announced anything officially.

When I reached out to Epic Games comms director Dana Cowley, they replied with “Thank you for checking in. We have no new information to share on this.”

The game’s description is still up on Steam, and hasn’t changed in the past three months. It seems that the game has been in the works since 2021, based on some legal documents from Epic’s app store legal battles.

We might get some more information about Unreal Tournament 3 X at Epic’s State of Unreal presentation at GDC 2023. The presentation will be livestreamed on March 22nd at 9:30AM PT / 12:30PM ET. Maybe Tim Sweeney will surprise us with an announcement then.

Keep your eyes open and fingers crossed! Until then, stay tuned and I’ll keep you updated.
