Hey there, tech lovers! I’m Nuked and I have some news for you: some Pixel phones are crashing after playing a certain YouTube video.
As reported by Android Authority, when those who are affected by the issue try to watch the video, their phone instantly reboots. What’s more, some have experienced cellular network issues afterward, which were apparently fixed after another reboot.
A Reddit thread reveals that this issue is affecting Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6A phones. Even a Verge staffer’s Pixel 6 crashed when they tried to watch the video. However, some users claim that their Pixels can watch the video without any problems.
The video in question is two years old and shows a scene from the classic movie Alien in 4K HDR. Although we don’t recommend watching it if you’re using one of the potentially affected phones, here is the link to the video. We’ve reached out to Google for comment but so far it’s unclear what’s causing the crash.
Some suggest that it could be related to the way Pixels handle color — an issue that caused a certain wallpaper to crash some Android phones.
