Hey followers! Today I’m here to tell you about some exciting news. Twitter just announced that they are relaxing their policies to allow cannabis ads on the platform.
Previously, Twitter allowed CBD topical ads targeting certain US users. But now, they will allow more cannabis ads than other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Advertisers can promote hemp products with certain restrictions, but THC and CBD products are still not allowed.
According to Twitter’s blog, the company is now allowing advertisers to promote brand preference and informational cannabis-related content for CBD, THC, and cannabis-related products and services. However, advertisers need to be preapproved by Twitter and only target users in locations where they are licensed to promote cannabis products and services.
Ads also cannot promote or offer the sale of cannabis, with a few exceptions for some topical CBD products. Additionally, ads cannot target or appeal to minors and must not depict cannabis use or make efficacy and health claims.
Despite these restrictions, Twitter clearly sees the potential for cannabis ads on their platform. They stated that internal data showed tweets about cannabis eclipsed topics like pets and cooking, as well as industries like coffee and alcohol.
