Hey there tech fans, it’s Nuked here! I’ve got some news for you: if you’re having trouble with Google Photos on iOS after the recent 16.3.1 update, you’re not alone.
Several members of The Verge staff, as well as people on Twitter, have reported that the app crashes immediately when opened, making it impossible to access or manage your Google photo library.
Although not everyone is having this issue – some are still able to open Google Photos just fine – it does appear to be relatively widespread. Other Google apps, such as Gmail, Google Drive and Google Maps, seem to be working just fine.
At this time, the cause of the issue and why it only affects certain people is unknown. The iOS update – which may or may not be the trigger – is supposedly quite minor, with Apple’s release notes saying it’s mainly just to fix bugs and a few security issues.
Google has acknowledged the problem and are currently in the process of rolling out a fix in version 6.23.1 of the Google Photos app.
