Hey everyone! It’s Nuked here, and I’m excited to share some exciting news about Tesla’s new $3.6 billion investment in Reno, Nevada.

The company is investing the money into its Gigafactory in Reno and part of the cash will be used to build its “first high-volume Semi factory.” Tesla delivered the first of their long-awaited electric Semi trucks to PepsiCo in December, and now they’re ready to ramp up production on a much larger scale.

In addition to the Semi factory, Tesla’s Nevada investment will also be used to build a 100 GWh 4680 battery cell factory. This will have the capacity to produce enough batteries for 2 million light duty vehicles annually and add 3,000 new employees to the facility. Currently, the Gigafactory produces around 37 GWh of batteries per year, which is enough for 500,000 vehicles.

So far, Tesla has invested a total of $6.2 billion in their Nevada Gigafactory. But unfortunately, they have also come under scrutiny for how the factory has changed Reno and allegations of drug trafficking and spying on employees. Tesla also operates Gigafactories in New York, China, Germany, and Texas, and they’re reportedly planning one for Mexico as well.
