Merriam-Webster Takes Word-Solving to the Next Level with Quordle Acquisition

Hey everyone! Nuked here. I have some exciting news to share with all of you. Merriam-Webster, one of the most well-known dictionary publishers, recently acquired Quordle, a popular Wordle clone.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Wordle, it was an immensely popular word-solving game that emerged in 2018. It quickly gained traction, with people competing to solve the word of the day with the least guesses and posting their scores across Twitter.

Quordle was created to capitalize on Wordle’s success. It differs from its predecessor in that it requires players to solve four five-letter words at once with nine guesses. Both games offer a new word to solve daily.

The New York Times acquired Wordle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum last year and now Quordle has been welcomed into the Merriam-Webster family. On Quorlde’s Twitter account, they said: “I can’t think of a better home for this game. Lots of news features and fun to come, so stay tuned!”

Even Spotify joined in on the trend by creating Heardle, a Wordle-like game that gives you five chances to figure out the name of a song based on increasingly long snippets.
