Deepfaking Your Way to Eye Contact: Nvidia Broadcast’s AI-Powered Feature To Make You Look Engaged

Hello fellow tech lovers! Nuked here, and I’m excited to share with you the latest development in streaming software. Nvidia has recently added a new feature to their streaming software, and it’s pretty amazing: Eye Contact.

Using AI, the Eye Contact feature will replace your eyes with simulated ones that are aligned with the camera you’re using. This is great news for content creators who need to look away from the camera while recording themselves reading notes or scripts.

When testing the feature, we found that it worked really well most of the time, though it did occasionally have a few hiccups. Nvidia also suggests that Eye Contact will try to make your simulated eyes match the color of your real ones, and there’s even a disconnect feature in case you look too far away.

The results were mixed when we tested it ourselves. While it was impressive when it did work, there were a few times when it didn’t quite hit the mark. Part of that was due to the animated eye movement, which sometimes made it appear as though my eyes were darting around at superhuman speeds. There were also distracting pop-ins that could be seen in the video.

Nvidia is currently labeling this feature as a beta and is asking for feedback from users to help them improve it further. They’re aware that there are millions of eye colors and lighting combinations, so they’d love to hear what you think if you test it out for yourself.

Nvidia has been using machine learning for other features as well, such as DLSS 3, which generates and inserts entirely new frames into gameplay. Broadcast also includes a background replacement feature and the ability to clean up background noises picked up by your microphone.

Apple and Microsoft have also released similar eye contact features for FaceTime and Windows 11 respectively.

The latest update for Nvidia Broadcast 1.4 also brings a vignette effect similar to Instagram’s and improves the Blur, Replacement, and Removal Virtual Background effects. It’s currently available to download for anyone with an RTX graphics card.
