Hey there tech fans! It’s Nuked here, and I have some news I wanted to share with you all. The Royal Mail has recently been affected by a disruption in its ability to ship packages or letters internationally. This is thought to be the result of a “cyber incident” and the Royal Mail is currently advising customers to “hold any export items” until the issue is solved.
At this point, it’s not clear whether this incident is an attack from hackers or some other technical error. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre is working with the Royal Mail, along with the National Crime Agency, to understand the impact. Regulators have also been informed of the issue.
This disruption could be a big one – according to the BBC, the courier sends out around 200,000 international parcels a day. Depending on how long it takes for the Royal Mail to restore its international export services, that could result in a lot of packages and letters piling up in the backlog. Furthermore, any major infrastructure going down can have widespread ramifications, as we’ve recently seen in the US with an FAA software issue causing delays for thousands of flights.
