This adorable assistant is a collaboration between Disney and Amazon, and it’s housed inside Echo smart speakers and displays. Its main purpose is to provide assistance with tasks like setting timers and alarms, as well as entertaining users with stories, games, and other interactive content featuring beloved Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars characters.

To summon the assistant, you simply say “Hey Disney!” and you’ll be connected with a randomly selected character, who could be anyone from Dory to Olaf to Mater to Animal. It’s a fun surprise every time.

Disney’s Magical Companion is built using the Alexa Custom Assistant voice AI foundation, which allows third parties to create their own voice assistants that can work alongside Amazon’s Alexa on Echo devices. It’s similar to the celebrity voices you can purchase for Alexa, but with more customized features and integrations specifically for Disney fans.
