US Customs and Border Protection seized 2,000 counterfeit AirPods from Hong Kong

WILMINGTON, DE - JUNE 13: Federal officials stand near pages of the "Rosenberg Diary" after announing the seizure of the long-lost diary June 13, 2013 in Wilmington, Delaware. The diary, which was discovered in upstate New York, was kept by Adolf Hitler's adviser Alfred Rosenberg, a Nazi party official, between 1936 and 1944. (Photo by William Thomas Cain/Getty Images)

Us customs and Border Protection tweeted that its officers had recently seized 2,000 counterfeit Apple airpods from Hong Kong, valued at $ 398k had they been genuine.

Cbp tweeted’that’s not an Apple’ as if all of the 2,000 blocked units were OnePlus buds. At $ 79 each, 2,000 of them would be worth $ 158,000.

Apple created the form factor that Apple created is now shared by many models of true wireless earbuds on the market. Nobody in the press release is OnePlus even mentioned, and there’s no clarity as to whether officers knew what they were looking at.

There’s seemingly no trickery at play, at least with the seized product. If airpods were supposed to be in the shipment, that’s another story.
